Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
Most planning applications in England must now show a 10% gain in wildlife habitat. We'll tell you if yours does, and how to meet it for the lowest cost.
You might be exempt
Many smaller projects don't need BNG. This includes house extensions and sites of 0.2 hectares or less that don't affect priority habitat. Send us your site plan and we'll check before you spend anything.
What's included
- A site survey to record the habitats you have now
- The official government calculation, before and after your development
- A report showing the council how you'll reach 10%
Keeping costs down
Keeping good habitats and planning the planting early is much cheaper than buying credits later. We'll suggest changes while your layout can still move.
When to book
The survey is best from April to September. We can survey in winter if you're short on time.
Common questions
What if my site can't reach 10%?
You can buy habitat units from another site, or government credits as a last resort. We'll explain the options and costs.
Can you do BNG and a PEA together?
Yes. One site visit covers both. See Preliminary Ecological Appraisal.
